Jusserand (Jean Jules).   Gravure frontispiece Libraire Hachette et Cie, Paris,  1895 First Edition    Printed faux parchment over plain wrappers Parchment stained and marked, but internally a very good copy; bearing the bookplate of Leonard Courtney (1st Baron Courtney of Penwith) showing his house in Cheyney Walk and inscribed by the author on the front free end-paper: “to Mrs Leonard Courtney with best Christmas wishes Jusserand”  Jusserand served as French Consul in London in 1878 and subsequently on the staff of the French Embassy. From 1902 he was posted to Washington, where he served as Ambassador throughout the First World War. Mrs Courtney (Lady Courtney of Penwith) was an elder sister of Beatrice Webb.
