Wells (H.G.).   Pictorial title-page  1895 First Edition    Sixteen pages publishers’ advertisements at end Binding somewhat rubbed and soiled, front free end-paper and half-title detached, browning internally, but a very good copy  The author’s first non-scientific work and one of about 650 copies published as number III of The Mayfair Set, comprising pieces from The Pall Mall Gazette. Most unusually, this copy does not have pages 5-6 of the advertisements excised by the publisher, proving the point that Edmund Gosse’s name was indeed printed as “Goose (Edmund)”.
