Campbell (Roy).   Seven drawings by the author Paul Koston, Cape Town,  1950 First Illustrated Edition, with a new preface by the author   4to Three quarter black calf, blue cloth boards, gilt Spine rubbed and worn and covers somewhat damp-marked, but internally a nice copy. Inscribed by the author on the fly-leaf: “To my dear friend Rob Lylepoeta y soldato with affection and admiration Roy Campbell”  Campbell first met Lyle in 1947 and he “was to become his closest friend and patron. ... Though Lyle was at this time twenty-seven, and Campbell forty-five, the two men took to each other at once. Campbell discovered that Lyle had been a Staff-Captain of the Intelligence Corps camp at Rotherham where had had himself trained, and though they had not been there at the same time, he would often hereafter introduce Lyle as ‘my Commanding Officer’.” - Peter Alexander, Roy Campbell: A Critical Biography (1982).
