Publisher’s publicity. Overton (Grant)   New York,  1923 First Edition     Fine copy in torn and partially defective dust-wrapper  “The most interesting book about books and authors of the year. Four publishers (Appleton, Doran, Doubleday and Scribners) have joined in the production of this unique volume. Chapters are devoted to Galsworthy, Conrad, Harold Bell Wright, Ralph Connor, Edith Wharton, Tarkington, Christopher Morley and many more, with interesting papers on dozens of other books and writers. The book will be a guide to the best things there are for the season of 1923-24. This book has been published frankly as advertising and is sold considerably below manufacturing cost ... post paid for 50 cents”. In his chapter on Wharton, Overton relied on a piece by Katharine Fullerton Gerould, the step-sister and sometime fiancée of Wharton’s lover Morton Fullerton. The chapter promotes Miss Wharton’s novel The Son at the Front; in a reciprocal gesture, as it were, that book promoted Overton’s work on the back-flap of its dust-jacket.
