Arrowsmith, Bristol,   [1899] First Edition     Spine a little darkened and somewhat worn at head and foot, otherwise a nice copy; end-papers browned, late ownership signature on front free end-paper. Scarce  A thinly disguised autiographical novel centred on the author’s “early Merseyside struggles”. There was a disagreement between Le Gallienne and John Lane, his regular publisher, when Le Gallienne offered this book to Arrowsmith. However, Lane was apparently unable, or unwilling, to match Arrowsmith’s offer and contented himself with publishing the more easily found American edition.
