The Iron BellLawrence (C.E.). Daniel O’Connor, 1921 First Edition Spine faded, otherwise a very good copy. The DEDICATION COPY: The printed dedication is “To A. St.John Adcock [novelist, essayist, editor of The Bookman] Gentle, Generous, Chivalrous”. In a short holograph letter writen on the front free end-paper, in the month of publication, the author writes: “13.iv.21. My dear Adcock, I hope you will not feel ashamed of this book - of which I am proud because of the dedication. It is anyhow an expression ... of my thanks ... for the many kindnesses and inestimable friendship through which you have enriched for me the recent years. Ever Yrs. C.E. Lawrence” Charles Edward Lawrence published more than a score of books, chiefly novels (such as this) and plays, but only this one with the firm of Daniel O’Connor of Great Russell Street, an imprint hitherto unknown to us and possibly of short duration.
